About Kellie Williford: Kellie is currently a Ph.D. student at Vanderbilt University in Dr. Danny Winder’s lab, where she is an F99/K00 DSPAN Fellow and former recipient of the HHMI Gilliam Fellowship. Her thesis work focuses on understanding the cell-type-specific and circuit mechanisms underlying stress processing and anxiety-like behaviors, and she plans to apply this knowledge to the field of addiction research as a postdoctoral fellow and beyond. Her research career began as an undergraduate at Washington University in St. Louis, where she was a John B. Ervin Scholar and a member of the MARC uSTAR Research Program. In addition to research, she is passionate about outreach, mentorship, and improving access to/the culture of academic spaces for other underrepresented trainees. As an undergraduate, she served as president of the Association of Mixed Students, and as a graduate student, she was co-founder and president of the Graduate Student of Color Collective, serves as a co-chair for the Neuroscience Student Organization Outreach Committee, and recently co-launched a tiered mentoring program called LADDERS (Leaders Advancing the Development of Diverse Educators and Researchers in STEM) to foster community and facilitate career transitions for underrepresented individuals at her university
